; ?Nothing could be more pleasing to the Saints upon the order of the Kingdom of the Lord, than the light which burst upon the world through the foregoing vision?. The sublimity of the ideas; the purity of the language; the scope for action; ?the rewards for faithfulness, and the punishments for sins, are so much beyond the narrow-mindedness of men, that every honest man is constrained to exclaim: ?It came from God. ???Joseph Smith. In February of 1832, as Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon sat contemplating the ?resurrection of the life? and the ?resurrection of damnation? as recorded in John 5: 29, a vision of the ethereal realms of glory was opened to their view. This vision is now recorded in the 76th Section of the Doctrine and Covenants. Joseph commented at the time, ?I could explain a hundredfold more than I ever have of the glories of the kingdoms manifested to me in the vision, were I permitted, and were the people prepared to receive it. ?Many years later, near the end of his ministry, he added more glorious detail in what are now Sections 131 and 132 and in his remarkable King Follett discourse (recorded herein). And other prophets and apostles have added their voices to illuminate this unparalleled doctrine and explain its import to the human family. First published in 1939, The Vision or The Degrees of Glory is a compilation of writings and sermons by early Church leaders that touch upon this unique Mormon doctrine of commensurate salvation for the living and for the dead. Contributors include the Prophet Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon, Parley P. Pratt, Orson Pratt, John Taylor, Jedediah M. Grant, Wilford Woodruff, Melvin J. Ballard, and Joseph F. Smith.
