N Grace and Grandeur Thomas G. Alexander unfolds Salt Lake City's story from a wilderness outpost to the metropolitan center chosen as the site for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Since the time Fremont Indians built pithouses near its watercourses, Salt Lake City has offered a home for a succession of peoples who have treasured its beauty and bounty. Grace and Grandeur tells us how and why Letter-day Saints, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Buddhists and others grappled with a legion of challenges to create a great American city.
