He taught in the school of the Prophets at Kirtland. He marched to Jackson County with Zion's camp. Orson was a member of the Original Quorum of the Tewlve. He was one of the first missionaries sent to open the work in Europe and later preside over the European Mission. He trave led to Palestine and in 1841, dedicated that land for the gathering of Israel. He committed the bible to memory in Engish, German, and Hebrew. When the First company of Saints left Nauvoo, he stayed behind for several years to manage Church affairs there. He nominated Brigham Young to be president of the church.
