These soldier Saints would also deepen their own faith while passing through trial and tribulation.Remember the sacrifice of Larry Chesley, a prisoner of war for more than six years. Listen to the testimony of Lance Wickman, an Army Ranger who would later become a General Authority. ; The true account of one man's determination to prevail against all enemies. The toward the final stages of WWII, late in November 1944, Jahan Overdiek and as associate named Klass Roghaar undertook a long and harrowing trip in search of food for their staving families. Amanciated, threadbare, shoes literally falling apart, they journeyed northward through the Dutch countryside, alternately walking and riding a bicycle cart. Within three days they covered approximatelyy seventy miles, half of that distance with a heavy load, undergoing hardsahip, anxiwty, and danger beyond comprehension. There were Nazis, the darkness, the cold, swamps and canals - there was fear. But htere was also faith, courage, and incredible tenacity of Johan Overdick and his conviction regarding the eternal nature of man.

7 LET MY PEOPLE GO!

Bagnall, Florence NolandVery Good in Good Dust Jacket, Publishers Press, 1968, Salt Lake City, UT

Hardcover

Blue and peach DJ and spine. DJ is slightly rubbed and edge worn. ; As Germany's World War II armies extended their ugly dominion, Yugoslavia came under their cruel heel. Overrun but not defeated, the Serbs raised their flag of defiance and thousands flocked to it's cause. THe Chetniks, as they were called, epitomized the hope and courage of a people determined to hurl the invader out. THe man who inspired this dedicated army was its great leader, the official appointee of the government-in-exile, General Draza Mihailovish. He is not now alive to tell his story, since with almost all of his army, he was exterminated by Tito and his communists. One prominent Chetnik survived and eventually found his way to America. Let my people go! tells his story. ; 6.25" x 9.25"; 253 pages, First Edition,

Even unto Bloodshed: An LDS Perspective on War, Boyce, Duane
8 Even unto Bloodshed: An LDS Perspective on War

Boyce, DuaneNew, Kofford Books, 2015, Salt Lake City, UT

Paperback

; When carefully examined, both secular and scriptural arguments for pacifism ultimately fail. Once such pacifist arguments are considered, rebutted, and respectfully set aside, it is possible to construct a sound framework for a scriptural view of war, at least in general terms. Such a framework is not pacifist, but it is anything but aggressive, and includes the quality of heart—not to mention, the wisdom—expected of all disciples of Christ, whatever their task or circumstance. It was not an anomaly when the Lord instructed the Nephites to defend their families “even unto bloodshed;” comprehensively understood, the statement expresses a genuine, profound, and conceptually rich scriptural principle.

Praise for Even Unto Bloodshed:

“A careful and detailed argument against pacifism has long been needed, and it is hard to imagine someone doing a better job of it. The scholarship in this volume is impressive, and it is likely to be the definitive work on the subject for years to come. Truly a major accomplishment.” — K. Codell Carter, Professor of Philosophy, Brigham Young University

“The question of how (or whether) participation in war can be reconciled with Christian ethics has occupied the minds of such great thinkers as Augustine, Aquinas, and Grotius. Latter-day Saints, however, have given little systematic attention to the matter thus far. But it’s time. This book brilliantly opens a long overdue conversation. Carefully and systematically weighing all of the relevant scriptural texts as well as applicable statements of modern prophets, it will be indispensable for all future Mormon discussions of the subject.” — Daniel C. Peterson, professor of Islamic studies and Arabic at Brigham Young University, founder of the Middle Eastern Texts Initiative, and editor of Interpreter: A Journal of Mormon Scripture

13 BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY - The Story of an American Hero

Fisher, Bernard And Borrowman, JerryNew in New Dust Jacket, Shadow Mountain, 2004,

Hardcover

Brand New! ; Providing close air support to ground troops in Vietnam was hazardous anytime, but on March 10, 1966, the Special Forces in the old French Fortress of Ashau were in particular trouble as the Viet Cong closed in. When an American airman went down, his death was a near certainty. That's when Major Bernie Fisher had a decision to make: leave the pilot to his fate or undertake a near-suicidal landing to help him out. Bernie's decision made him just one of sixteen members in the history of the Air Force to earn the Congressional Medal of Honor. "As a former pilot and navigator with 195 combat missions over Vietnam I found Beyond the Call of Duty to be not only fascinating but extremely accurate. This is the kind of book you don't put down, as it so vividly describes the life, the joys, and the heartaches of an Air Force aviator. "--Ted M. Demars, Lt. Col. German Saints At War, Freeman, Robert & Felt, John
14 German Saints At War

Freeman, Robert & Felt, JohnNew in New Dust Jacket, Cedar Fort, Inc., 2008,

Hardcover

Cover has some light edge and corner wear. ; During World War II, thousands of young Latter-day Saints became soldiers to fight for their countries. When the Saints at War project started in the year 2000, Directors Robert Freeman and Dennis Wright began their research by focusing on understanding the experiences these Latter-day Saints had during the war. It soon became evident, however, that the story of the war was more involved than just retelling the American experience.
For Latter-day Saints, the story of World War II also involved the powerful experiences endured by Church members from Germany. While modest in comparison to the number of accounts received from American soldier-saints, the story of the German Latter-day Saints was perhaps even more compelling. This book shares the impact of war on German Saints. While most of the stories are firsthand accounts from Latter-day Saints who fought for German forces, this book also provides glimpses into the trials endured by civilian Latter-day Saints, who bore such heavy burdens both during and after the war.
The war was horrible for both sides. The German LDS soldiers had to make choices based on their knowledge and acceptance of the gospel. It is apparent that these soldiers were just as inclined to live the Word of Wisdom, pray for protection, and uphold moral standards, as were their American Latter-day Saint brethren. They also sought for and received direction from Heavenly Father in moments of danger just as Latter-day Saints from America and other nations did.
Drawing from several accounts of German Saints, this book chronicles the effects of war on German Saints, and how through faith and perseverance, they survived this terrible time.

The Devil Knows How to Ride, Leslie, Edward E.
20 The Devil Knows How to Ride

Leslie, Edward E.Very Good, Blackstone Audiobooks, 1998,

Audio Tapes

Has thirteen tapes inside. Case in good condition. Has some very small scuffs, but otherwise good condition. ; William Clarke Quantrill was quite possibly the most dangerous man to fight in the Civil War. The leader of an almost psychopathic band of guerrilla warriors, Quantrill participated as a Confederate in a deadly border war between Southern sympathizers in Missouri and the Unionist Jayhawks of Kansas. He was largely responsible for the 1863 massacre of nearly 200 unresisting men and boys in Lawrence, Kansas, as well as dozens of other brutal acts that today would be called terrorism. Among the notorious men who rode with him were Frank and Jesse James, whose postwar crime careers are briefly reviewed. Edward E. Leslie provides an objective treatment of his controversial subject, and readers will appreciate his ability to tell a good story--including the one about why Quantrill's bones currently rest in three different states and why a forensically correct wax reconstruction of his head can be found in the refrigerator of an Ohio historical society. John Lescault generally gives a straight reading of Leslie's exciting book about William Quantrill and his raiders. Over 100 years after they burned Lawrence, KS, and butchered its male citizens, it remains the defining event in the history of the town. Leslie discusses the influences and events that made Quantrill into a cold-blooded killer. He portrays Quantrill as a man of his times, and his description of the atrocities of Civil War guerrilla warfare parallels the callousness of current-day terrorists. When Lescault reads some of the letters and accounts of eyewitnesses, he displays their emotions and expresses their enthusiasms, desperation, and grief. ; Audio Tape; 2.31 x 9.68 x 6.88 Inches,
