Bednar, David A.New in New Dust Jacket, Deseret Book, 2012, Salt Lake City, UT

Brand new hardcover book with DVD! ; Knowledge is important—but it is only part of the equation in our spiritual development. Our happiness in mortality and our progress throughout eternity depend on our learning to "act in doctrine," to live as we know we should live.

In Act in Doctrine, Elder David A. Bednar shares key insights to help close the gap between what we know and how we act. "The essential first step in reducing the disparity between gospel knowledge and righteous behavior is learning about and emulating the character of Christ," he writes.

As we turn from self to to the Savior, we become better able to understand respond to the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Obedience becomes "the sweet fruit of honoring covenant responsibilities—not merely a chore or an option to be performed based upon circumstances or convenience." This is a stirring invitation to all of us to learn, ponder, and Act in Doctrine.

Postponing Heaven; The Three Nephites, the Bodhisattva, and the Mahdi, Hatem, Jad
4 Postponing Heaven; The Three Nephites, the Bodhisattva, and the Mahdi

Hatem, JadNew, Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship, 2015,

Brand new softcover book!

; Christianity, like other world religions, surprisingly acknowledges the existence of a plurality of human messiahs. In this comparative work, philosopher Jad Hatem examines Mormonism’s Three Nephites, Buddhism’s Bodhisattva, and Islam’s Mahdi—distinctive messianic figures who postpone Heaven, sacrificially prolonging their lives for the benefit of humankind.

Originally published in French, this translation includes two additional papers written by Jad Hatem dealing with aspects of Latter-day Saint belief and a new interview between Hatem and Latter-day Saint philosopher James E. Faulconer.

Postponing Heaven is the first book in the Maxwell Institute’s new series, Groundwork: Studies in Theory and Scripture.

Divine Signatures - the Confirming Hand of God, Lund, Gerald N.
5 Divine Signatures - the Confirming Hand of God

Lund, Gerald N.New in New Dust Jacket, Deseret Book, 2010, Salt Lake City, UT

Brand new hardcover book! ; "Heavenly Father, are you really there?" As Latter-day Saints, we know God exists, but at some point we may wonder, "Heavenly Father, are you really there for me?" When trials seem beyond our ability to bear, some people lose their spiritual bearings, while others are made even stronger. How can we strengthen our faith and deepen our testimony to the point that we can endure whatever life holds in store for us and come out strong than before? In this unique book, Gerald N. Lund:

# Reminds us of how much God loves His children and that He is anxious to bless them, especially when they are striving to do His will.

# Teaches that God often sends blessings in such a highly unusual, dramatic, or precisely timed manner that it's as if the Lord "signs" the blessing personally so we know with certainty that it came from Him.

# Relates stories from Church history, from his own life, and from acquaintances that illustrate the inspiring and life-changing insights he shares.

Brand new softcover book!

; The idea that man is an eternal individual is vital to a full under- standing of the doctrines of the gospel of Jesus Christ. An Experiment on the Word, Miller, Adam S.
8 An Experiment on the Word

Miller, Adam S.New, Maxwell Institute, 2014,

Brand new softcover book!

An Experiment on the Word: Reading Alma 32 is based on a novel idea: that Mormons do theology. Doing theology is different from weighing history, deciding doctrine, or inspiring devotion. Theology speculates. It experiments with questions and advances hypotheses. It tests new angles and pulls loose threads. It reads old texts in careful and creative ways. The Mormon Theology Seminar aims to promote such work. The Seminar is scholarly in orientation and cooperative in practice. It focuses on organizing short-term, seminar-style collaborations that, over the span of a few months of intense discussion, consider specific questions about Mormon theology through close readings of basic Mormon texts.

In 2008, six scholars focused on Alma 32. Their papers addressed questions like these:

*What does Alma 32 teach us about exercising faith?
*What does Alma mean by "the word," and why is it so central to faith?
*How can the textual, historical, and political contexts of Alma 32 shape our understanding of Alma's teachings?

Their answers will surprise and enlighten you.

Mormons: An Open Book, Sweat, Anthony
12 Mormons: An Open Book

Sweat, AnthonyNew, Ensign Peak, 2014,

Brand new softcover book! ; At first glance, as I thumbed thru the pages of "Mormons: An Open Book", I was struck by the layout of the book. Instead of taking a straight prose style, the book is set up much like a modern textbook. Packed with nuggets of information and an appealing visual presentation, what would have been a monologue on plain white pages is instead something exciting and engaging.Peppered throughout the book are separate text boxes of thoughts, statistics, and asides triggered by the topic on that page. It has some of the best info-graphics about the Church I have seen. The well-placed illustrations are humorous, satirical, and visually appealing.

With the growth and exposure of Mormonism across the country and world, more and more people are curious about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Although most Americans have an opinion about Mormonism, many of them admit they don't really know what Mormons actually believe. Using scriptures, quotes, facts, engaging visual images, and even some humor, this one-of-a-kind book is designed to openly explain the beliefs, practices, history, and culture or Mormonism. Chapters answer such questions as "Are Mormons Christians?" "What happens inside LDS temples?" and many more. Chapters address topics such as LDS beliefs about marriage and family, the position of women in the Church, and LDS views about politics and America. There are even sections that dispel some common myths and misconceptions about Mormonism.Written from the perspective of those who know and live the religion, the pages of Mormons: An Open Book invite you to come in, learn about, and better understand a growing body of faith in American and across the world: Mormonism. ; 1 x 8.9 x 7 Inches; 224 pages,
