6 Salt Lake City - The Place Which God Prepared

Esplin, Scott - Alford, KennethNew in New Dust Jacket, Deseret Book, 2011, Salt Lake City, UT

Hardcover

Brand new hardcover book! ; For more than 150 years, “Come, Come, Ye Saints,” the anthem of the pioneer journey, has praised Salt Lake City as “the place which God for us prepared.” This new book from Brigham Young University’s Religious Studies Center analyzes the fulfillment of that poetic longing and features chapters discussing Salt Lake’s place in our sacred story. Topics include histories of significant landmarks (the Salt Lake Temple, the Tabernacle, Ensign Peak, and the Salt Lake City Cemetery) and stories from the city’s past. Because Salt Lake is the world headquarters of the Church, the book also contains histories of Music and the Spoken Word, Church correlation, family history, and LDS Family Services. The reader will see connections between the revelations of Joseph Smith and Salt Lake City as a modern city of Zion—the place, indeed, where the Saints have been blessed. ; 6" x 9"; 384 pages,

; ENDORSEMENT.

The undersigned take pleasure in recommending this book to the consideration of all who are interested in the subject on which it treats. We approve of its contents, after having carefully examined it, and we hope it will have the effect intended by the writer. He presents his arguments from a legal standpoint and in a somewhat different manner from anything of the kind which has heretofore been attempted.

JOSEPH F. SMITH,
ANTHON H. LUND,
CHARLES W. PENROSE,
First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
January 30, 1913.

INTRODUCTION.

In assuming to write a discussion of the question "Is Joseph III the true successor of Joseph the Prophet, in the office of President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?" it is necessary that some reason for doing so be given. For many years there has been a discussion of this question ; and for some years the writer has interested himself in this question, to the extent that he has made considerable search of the records to convince himself as to how this should be answered, in a brief and direct manner.

Brand new hardcover book!

; One of the most famous landmarks in the American West. The Salt Lake Tabernacle held the North American record for the widest unsupported interior space at its completion in 1867. Finished two years before the arrival of the railroad, it was constructed primarily of local stone, timber, and adobe. One of a long succession of buildings constructed to permit members of the Mormon faith to hear from their prophet, the Tabernacle accommodated over 13,000 people. A recent seismic upgrade provided a unique opportunity to view details of the historic building. Construction challenges, acoustics, the development of the organ, and subsequent alterations and upgrades are amply illustrated, providing a complete story of this magnificent edifice.

17 All That Was Promised - The St. George Temple and the Unfolding of the Restoration

Yorganson, Blaine M/New, Deserert book, 2013, Salt Lake City, UT

Paperback

Brand new softcover book!

; Brigham Young was determined to fulfill the charge Joseph Smith had given him—to finalize the endowment and sealing ceremonies and begin administering these sacred ordinances to the living in behalf of their dead. This work, however, could be performed only in a dedicated temple.
Knowing the temple being built in Salt Lake City would require years to complete, Brother Brigham was inspired to build a temple that could be constructed sooner. The place he designated was in Utah's Dixie, an isolated desert outpost that had only recently been settled.
In this riveting volume, best-selling author Blaine M. Yorgason presents the inspiring true story of the enormous sacrifice and prodigious labor performed by the St. George pioneers called to bring the prophet's vision to fruition.
The authors document details of the temple's construction, and they recount many previously untold, often miraculous, stories of those who sacrificed greatly and worked diligently to raise a majestic, snow-white house of the Lord in the red-rock wilderness of southern Utah.
Equally compelling are accounts of events after the dedication of parts of the temple in January 1877. Brigham Young and other Church leaders sought and received revelation on how the temple ordinances were to be formalized, and Wilford Woodruff was inspired to do the work for the founding fathers of the United States and other prominent men and women who dies before the gospel was restored.
The St. George Temple is the place where the Lord at last revealed all that was promised through the coming of Elijah and where temple worship, as we now know it, was practiced by the Latter-day Saints.
