The Best of The Prophet, Black, Susan Easton
6 The Best of The Prophet

Black, Susan EastonNew, 2014,

Paperback

Brand new softcover book with searchable DVD-Rom. ; Published for just one year, from May 1844 until May 1845, The Prophet is a key to understanding the Latter-day Saint experience in the East at that crucial time in LDS Church history. The pages are filled with news of Mormonism and the spread of the Latter-day Saint faith in New York, Pennsylvania, and other eastern states in the mid-1840s. Local news of interest to Latter-day Saint historians is presented against a backdrop of historical events, such as the United States presidential election of 1844, the Martyrdom of Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum, and the ongoing wrestle between Sidney Rigdon and the Apostles as they vied for converts in the East.

Editors of The Prophet printed an unrelenting defense of Mormonism to counteract exaggerated reports and slanderous claims stemming from Hancock County, Illinois, and printed in eastern newspapers. Editors George T. Leach, William Smith, Samuel Brannan, and Parley P. Pratt confronted politicians, newspaper columnists, and even the governor of Illinois on statements that misrepresented Mormon faith and vilified discipleship. In contrast, they wrote in glowing terms of Joseph Smith and thousands of Mormons gathered on the banks of the Mississippi. They wrote words of encouragement to fellow believers in the East who were planning to migrate to Nauvoo.

The accompanying DVD contains full-color scans of all fifty-two issues of The Prophet, as well as annotations about people, places, and terms mentioned in the newspaper.

Dennis, Ronald D.New in New Dust Jacket, Deseret Book Company, RSC BYU, 2014,

Hardcover

Brand new hardcover book! ; The fifty-three issues of Udgorn Seion (Zion's Trumpet) published during 1853 served to keep Latter-day Saints all over Wales abreast of the latest direction and information from their leaders in Merthyr Tydfil and the newly announced practice of polygamy in the Church. They could read translated minutes of conferenced held in Salt Lake City; instructions about emigrating; letters from those who had already left Wales for America; answers to their doctrinal questions; poetry composed especially for the periodical; and even bits of humor and wisdom sprinkled throughout. Today's reader of the "facsimile translation" of this volume can gain insights into the Mormon movement in mid-nineteenth-century Wales and a clearer understanding of the challenges the converts faced in living their new religion.; 9.30 X 6.40 X 2.30 inches; 976 pages,

8 Zion's Trumpet - 1854 Welsh Mormon Periodical

Dennis, Ronald D.New in New Dust Jacket, Deseret Book Company, RSC BYU, 2015,

Hardcover

Brand new hardcover book! ; When Dan Jones assumed the editorship of Zion's Trumpet at the beginning of 1854, he was a year and a half into his first mission to his native Wales. This was in fulfillment of a prophecy uttered by Joseph Smith on the eve of his martyrdom: "You will see Wales and fulfill the mission appointed you ere you die."In the foreword to this seventh volume of Zion's Trumpet, Jones calls the periodical "a treasury of heavenly pearls, a gift given to the age that unfolds." As with the English translation of the six preceding volumes of Zion's Trumpet, this 1854 volume is published in a "facsimile translation" format to provide the reader with something of the appearance and flavor of the original Welsh publication.

9 Zion's Trumpet - 1856 and 1857 Welsh Mormon Periodical

Dennis, Ronald D.New in New Dust Jacket, Deseret Book Company, RSC BYU, 2017, Salt Lake City, UT

Hardcover

Brand new hardcover book!

; During 1856 and 1857, fifty-two issues of Udgorn Seion (Zions Trumpet) were published to deliver guidance and information to the Latter-Day Saints all over Wales from their leaders in Swansea. Emigration was the principal focus of the first few 1856 issues. Today these publications give us a glimpse into the lives of the Welsh Saints, five hundred of whom set sail on the S. Curling in April of that year. Half of this group then crossed the plains with the Edward Bunker handcart company.

Daniel Daniels, the new editor of the periodical, was pleased to publish periodic reports from his predecessor Dan Jones about the emigration. During his second year as editor of Zion's Trumpet, a worried Daniels also published reports about Colonel Albert Sidney Johnston's Utah Expedition, which was advancing toward Salt Lake City, where his wife and children lived.

Continuing the facsimile translation format of the previous eight volumes, translator and editor Ronald D. Dennis maintains the format and character of the original Welsch publication, giving readers a fascinating look into this little-known period of Church history. After thirty-five years of teaching Welsh and Portuguese at Brigham Young University, Ronald D. Dennis is taking advantage of his retirement years to translate the remaining extant volumes of Zion's Trumpet. During his three decades at Brigham Young University, Professor Dennis amassed an extensive collection of biographies, journals, and pictures of the early Welsh Latter-day Saints.

Leather

Six volumes in Five, Vol 1 and 2 are bound together in 1 book. Printed in 1967. Volumes bound in gray leather spines with cream boards and red leather labels on spines. All volumes in very good condition with some shelf and edge wear, no noticed markings. ; This is the complete run of the Nauvoo newspaper. Published monthly or twice monthly. Original editers were Ebenezer Robinson and The Brother of the Prophet, Joseph Smith, Don Carlos Smith. After Don Carlos's untimely death, Joseph Smith became the editor. The Times and Seasons was the official newspaper of the LDS Church (Much Like the Ensign Magazine Today) , and between it's pages were the first appearances of the Wentworth Letter, the Book of Abraham as well as the personal history of Joseph Smith. One cannot hope to understand the Nauvoo period of Mormonism without the 'Times and Seasons'. More than its predecessors, it captures the spirit of the Latter-day Saints as it chronicles their day-to-day efforts to spread their message and gather the converted. Its pages reflect the optimism, which fueled the building of the City of Joseph and the sorrow, which accompanied it's abandonment. ; 6.5" x 9.75",
