Scraps of Biography - Short Biographies of John Tanner, Daniel Tyler, and Newel Knight - Faith Promoting Series 10
5 Scraps of Biography - Short Biographies of John Tanner, Daniel Tyler, and Newel Knight - Faith Promoting Series 10

New, Archive Publishers, 2000, Heber City, Utah

Paperback

Brand new softcover book! %% ; (Volume 10) Included in this book of the FAITH-PROMOTING SERIES are the short biographies of John Tanner, Daniel Tyler, and Newel Knight taken from their personal histories and journals. Like other books of this series, the true accounts are related to "increase the faith of the youth of the Church."

From the Preface: "There is a gradually increasing interest among the young of this people for reading and study. It is now the ambition of nearly every son and daughter of the Saints to become well educated. Parents, also, are more deeply interested in the intellectual growth of the youth. Thus we are gradually ascending to a higher plane, and our influence is being felt in a more extendedsphere.

"The desire, however, to place matter in the hands of the young for reading and study, should not cause parents to be less careful in the selection of books. Truth expands the mind and quickens the understanding, while fiction dulls the perceptions and impairs the memory." ; Faith Promoting Series Series; Vol. 10; 5" x 8"; 128 pages,

The Washington Hypothesis A Modern-day Investigator Explores the Possible Connection Between the American Covenant, Latter-day Temples, and George Washington, Ballard, Timothy
13 The Washington Hypothesis A Modern-day Investigator Explores the Possible Connection Between the American Covenant, Latter-day Temples, and George Washington

Ballard, TimothyNew in New Dust Jacket, Deseret Book Company, 2016, Salt Lake City, UT

Hardcover

Brand new hardcover book!

; We know that George Washington was a moral man and an inspiring leader, but did he possibly know more than we suppose? Was he a national covenant maker like Moses, Abraham, Lehi, or Captain Moroni? Did he understand that he was fighting for the liberty of a promised land protected by God, a place where the Lord's holy temples could be built?

The Washington Hypothesis explores the intriguing evidence that Washington and the other Founding Fathers knew the Lord had a greater purpose for America. It takes us on a fascinating historical journey through the miracles of the Revolutionary War to the foundational documents of this great nation to the symbolism evident in every corner of the nation's capital. Exploring how Washington's beliefs framed his every action, author Timothy Ballard draws compelling conclusions about the divinity of that great leader's calling. As we see the evidence of the Lord's hand in Washington's life, we may discover a much grander design at work in the founding of our nation.

Lost Legacy - THE MORMON OFFICE OF PRESIDING PATRIARCH, Bates, Irene M. & Smith, E. Gary
16 Lost Legacy - THE MORMON OFFICE OF PRESIDING PATRIARCH

Bates, Irene M. & Smith, E. GaryVery Good in Very Good Dust Jacket, University of Illinois Press, 1996, Urbana

Hardcover

Cover has some light edge and corner wear.

; The hereditary office of Presiding Patriarch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, first occupied by the father of the Mormon prophet, Joseph Smith, had long seemed the focal point of a struggle for authority between those appointed and those born to leadership positions. In Lost Legacy, now in paperback, Irene Bates and E. Gary Smith argue that the office's 1979 demise was inevitable. Chronicling the history of the office beginning with its creation in 1833, the authors illuminate the tensions between the leadership circle of the Council of the Twelve Apostles, headed by Brigham Young, and the potential rival power center of the Patriarch. Asserting that the struggle was related to conflict between the Smith family and the rest of the leadership, the book makes the case that the real source of dissonance between the patriarchs and other church leaders was the impossibility of melding familial authority (the Patriarch) with official authority (the structured leadership of the church). Winner of the Mormon History Association Best Book Award
