Hardcover

Purple Cover has some light edge and corner wear. Previous owner name inside front cover. ; Down the road came plunging a runaway horse, his eyes blazing and his mouth flecked with foam.In the light buggy that rocked and bounced behind him, threatening at any moment to overturn, stood a young man, sawing at the reins with all his strength. But though he was stalwart and vigorous, his strength availed nothing against the power of the maddened brute. The man’s eyes glanced from side to side, as though he were planning to jump. But at the fearful rate at which he was going, a leap would almost certainly have meant broken bones or a broken neck. He seemed to abandon the thought, and put the last remnant of his overtaxed strength in one more frantic tug at the reins. ; The Hunt for Sunken Treasure Series; 5" x 7.5"; 148 pages,

Hardcover

Published by Bruccoli-Clark in 1976. Super clean copy.

; In an early series of journalistic pieces for Motor magazine, F. Scott Fitzgerald described a journey he took with his wife Zelda from Connecticut to Alabama in a clapped out automobile which he called the "Rolling Junk." The Return of the Native, Hardy, Thomas
15 The Return of the Native

Hardy, ThomasVery Good, Franklin Library, 1980, Pennsylvania

Leather

Book is in good shape, little corner, cover, and edge wear. Personal library name plate inside front cover, and seal on front inside freepage, no noticed markings on pages, all else great ; One of Thomas Hardy's most powerful works, The Return of the Native centers famously on Egdon Heath, the wild, haunted Wessex moor that D. H. Lawrence called "the real stuff of tragedy." The heath's changing face mirrors the fortunes of the farmers, inn-keepers, sons, mothers, and lovers who populate the novel. The "native" is Clym Yeobright, who comes home from a cosmopolitan life in Paris. He; his cousin Thomasin; her fiancé, Damon Wildeve; and the willful Eustacia Vye are the protagonists in a tale of doomed love, passion, alienation, and melancholy as Hardy brilliantly explores that theme so familiar throughout his fiction: the diabolical role of chance in determining the course of a life. ; 5.75" x 9.25"; 418 pages, Illustrated by Ben F. Wohlberg,
