1 CONFLICT IN THE QUORUM - Orson Pratt, Brigham Young, Joseph Smith

Bergera, Gary JamesNew in New Dust Jacket, Signature Books, 2002, Salt Lake City, UT

Hardcover

Brand new hardcover book! Never been read! %% ; At a meeting of the LDS Quorum of the Twelve in 1860, one of the church's senior apostles complained that "Brother Orson Pratt has withstood Joseph (Smith) and he has withstood Brother Brigham(Young) many times and he has done it tonight and it made my blood chill. "Whenever the quorum discussed Pratt's controversial sermons and writings, the conversation could become heated. As documented by Gary James Bergera in a surprisingly suspensful account, Pratt's encounters with his brothern untimately affected not only his seniority in the Quorum of the Twelve but also LDS doctrine, policy, and organizational structure. ; 6.25" x 9.25"; 352 pages,

2 JOSEPH SMITH'S QUORUM OF THE ANOINTED, 1842-1845 A Documentary History

Anderson, Devery Scott & Gary James Bergera & Todd ComptonNew in New Dust Jacket, Signature Books, 2005,

Hardcover

Brand New Book. ; The first Latter-day Saint temple ceremonies were performed, not in Kirtland, Ohio, but on the second floor of Joseph Smith's Red Brick Store in Nauvoo, Illinois. For nearly four years beginning in 1842, the prophet's modest mercantile functioned as the de facto temple— the site of the first washings, anointings, endowments, and sealings.
Preparations to initiate the first members of Joseph Smith's Quorum of the Anointed, or Holy Order, as it was also known, were made on May 3, 1842. The walls of the second level of the store were painted with garden-themed murals, the rooms fitted with carpets, potted plants, and a veil hung from the ceiling.
In this volume, the editors assemble all available primary references to the Anointed Quorum and its regular gatherings in the Red Brick Store and other locations prior to construction of the Nauvoo temple. ; 1.16 x 9.24 x 6.36 Inches; 265 pages,

3 The Autobiography of B. H. Roberts

Bergera, Gary James; Roberts, Brigham H.New, Signature Books, 1990,

Paperback

GARY JAMES BERGERA, EDITOR. STERLING M. McMURRIN, FOREWORD. In this exciting and readable autobiography, one of the most colorful figures of the American frontier recounts his poverty-stricken childhood, his rowdy adolescence in Rocky Mountain mining camps, his unsuccessful bid for the U. S. Congress, and his stormy career in one of the leading councils of the Mormon church. Polygamy, women's suffrage, prohibition, and separation of church and state occupy center stage in the unfolding drama of Brigham Henry Roberts's controversial life. BRAND NEW! ; The story-book adventures of Roberts's life made him a household name during his lifetime. His impassioned speeches incited riots, his reasoned writings defined and codified religious beliefs, and his candid disclosures of Utah history brought him both respect and censure. He is best remembered today as a largely self-educated intellectual. Several of his landmark published works are still in print more than fifty years after his death. His life story, told here in his own words and published for the first time, may well stand as his greatest, most enduring achievement. For many today, B. H. Roberts is the quintessential Mormon intellectual of the twentieth century. But his theological writings came late in life and his historical views were more subjective than definitive. His autobiography, on the other hand, is a forthright account of the events and acquaintances that contributed to his unique faith and intellectual independence. Troubled by the memory of being abandoned as a child, and of the abusive care of quarrelling and intemperate foster-parents, he survived a stormy youth of poverty and neglect. He describes his nearly ten years as a missionary to the southern United States, his subsequent tenure as an outspoken member of the First Quorum of Seventy, his public opposition to women's suffrage, and his controversial bid for the U. S. House of Representatives as a Mormon polygamist. ; 6" x 9"; 284 pages,

4 The Nauvoo Endowment Companies, 1845-1846: A Documentary History

Anderson, Devery Scott & Gary James BergeraNew in New Dust Jacket, Signature Books, 2005,

Hardcover

Brand new book. ; For the two months the Nauvoo temple was in operation (December 1845-February 1846) , scribes carefully documented all activities and events taking place inside, including lectures on portions of the ceremonies that were acted out as a play and the significance of sealing rituals. Their narratives begin with the lighting of fires and hauling of water each morning at 3: 00 a. M. In preparation for the day's events.

Historians, biographers, and genealogists will find the details (federal marshals searching the building to serve arrest warrants, for instance) , as well as the names of initiates and dates of ordinances, to be significant. For general readers, this documentary history also offers evidence of the great sacrifices on the part of the first Mormons, who were anxious to make themselves right before God, strengthen family ties, and unite their community. ; 2.15 x 9.24 x 6.38 Inches; 688 pages,
